I tried to keep the organic shapes with warmer tones, while keeping the hard surface pieces using cooler ones. The scene was created in Maya, rendered through Mental Ray, and composited in Shake. 2D elements were added in Photoshop.

I wanted to use a very strongly-saturated color palette with rich red tones. The scene is done completely with procedurals, particles, fluids, and lots of post work with the separate render layers.

This is a project that was originally intended for a motion graphics short, but ended up taking a different turn in the end. It ended up being a very nice test project to try out new render and compositing ideas, so I'm definately happy with how it came out. The video file shows the image displayed in a security camera style format with a breakdown of some of the layers used.

An Orcish Encounter

This is an old, finished composite I worked on for my student demo reel. The orc is rendered in Mental Ray with final gather and hdr. The dragons in the background are also rendered out of Maya. The tower, smoke, light beam, and clouds are all painted. HSV adjustments and compositing work was all done in photoshop. Thanks for checking it out.
Special thanks goes to Aren Voorhees for letting me texture his model. You can see his work at http://www.arenvoorhees.com
